My Advocacy In Action

I enjoy spending time outside and lending a helping hand to those in my community. On this page I'll share what advocacy projects I'm working on. I hope it demonstrates that we can incorporate things we personally enjoy while building up the people around us and making our community better at the same time. I enjoy conservation and habitat restoration so I joined The Portland Monarch's. I also enjoy documentaries, investigation work, current events, and awareness. I have recently transcribed an interview with an indigenous Maya woman about the historical events and protests happening in Guatemala. You can listen to the interview below. Resilience & Resistance. An indigenous perspective on historical protests.

Protests in Guatemala began two weeks ago after one of the most tumultuous elections in the country's recent history. The protests are in response to allegations that Attorney General Consuelo Porras tried to prevent President-elect Bernardo Arévalo from taking office in January. Arévalo has promised to fight corruption.The protesters are demanding the resignation of Porras. They accuse her of plotting to prevent Arévalo from taking office. The protests have been peaceful until now, but some have turned violent. The protests have been led by: Indigenous leaders, student groups, unions, and Indigenous authorities.
